Hi I had these same issues. What I did was enter live chat and explain my problem. After that, they added another key to my account which solved the issues I had with downloading DLC.
The play button was still grayed out, however. It seems that the patch Origin downloads after you install the game deletes the MassEffect2Launcher.exe and all related files from the game installation. However, it still looks for that particular file in order to launch the game, as evidenced by the Play button lighting up and immediately working after I replaced it by finding it in the game installation files and putting it back into the folder. It still showed an error about missing files, so I went looking for some more launcher related files and found a folder containing a bunch of image files and an xml file.
After replacing this, the game launched without a hitch. In short: Origin patches the game and deletes the Launcher, then still looks for it in order to start the game. Fix: EA must either fix their patch so it doesn't delete the Launcher, or point Origin directly to the game executable. Workaround: Replace the Launcher and related files from the game installation files (Origin settings -> advanced -> browse game install files, get MassEffect2Launcher.exe and the '/data/launcher' folder) OR launch the game executable directly from the game folder. PS: I have the digital CE. Worth mentioning that they also deleted the uninstall, thus the game doesn't show up in 'install uninstall' listing on your Windows.

The game does show up in the 'Programs and Futures' section of the Windows control panel, as it is suppose to do. If it doesn't show up on your machine, there is a problem on your machine. (I would guess a Registry problem) In wide parts of Europe, and also in other parts of the World you can call EA directly and also get a Chat or call back option.
