The ordnance 'flaming bomb' replaced the Rampant Colt on the left rear of the slide, behind the slide serrations. The ordnance 'flaming bomb' was also located on the frame where the inspectors mark typically.

Thanks Quack! It's a basic model that I bought new back in the early 90's for $450.I still actually have the receipt in the box LOL. I was looking at a used 4' Kimber. When it comes down to it, I really don't want to get rid of the Springer, I was just looking for a second opinion on the price I was quoted by the dealer. I carry the gun daily which is why I wanted a compact 1911a1. I've decided to just keep this one and buy the other one.one can never have too many guns, right LOL kgrimm86, I think you made the right decision in keeping it. I too have a SA similar to yours. I think back in the day SA called it ' Standard ' which equates to todays ' Mil-Spec ' as there were no GI Model back then. Mine has the blocky frame and brushed blued finish. My gun is serial numbered ' NM 145xxx '.

I've been comparing it to my other 1911s and that old Springfield seems to have a ' harder ' steel. Seems to be thicker in all dimensions almost similar in weight and looks to the PRO model. I have a Milspec and a Star PD.

I don't find the size that much of a difference regarding concealability, but the weight difference is considerable espescially if you wear it all day. The Star PD was one of the first factory chopped 1911 with an aluminum frame. It was made to be carried more than shot but it has a trigger that would make a target gun envious, gobbles everything it is fed and shoots where I point it.

As far as the 'NM' designation is I can't say but I do know that all SA's are put together in this country. The basic forgings are done in Brazil and imported into the USA. You have a fantastic pistol and suggest you stick with it. Kevin, I believe that's is a good price based on the prices in California.
